Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)

A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a network that interconnects users across a geographic area that is larger than a local area network (LAN) but smaller than the geographic area covered by a wide area network (WAN). A MAN typically covers an area like a city.

The term is also used for the interconnection of a number of local area networks in a city into a single larger network by bridging them with backbone lines.
