FRS - Family Radio Service

FRS or Family Radio Service is a walkie-talkie radio from the United States. FRS radios are compact, handheld, wireless 2-way radios that can be used over a relatively short range of 250 m up to 1.5 km depending on the conditions. There is no license required for FRS radios.


FRS radios operate on any of 14 UHF channels (1-14) with a center frequency ranging from 462.5625 - 467.7125 MHz. FRS radios use frequency modulation (FM) with a bandwidth of 25 kHz. The maximum allowable power is 0.5 Watt. FRS radios and their antennas may not be modified to extend their range.
