GSM 1X

The term GSM1X refers to technology to provide interoperability between GSM and CDMA2000 1X networks. GSM 1X allows subscribers to use the same handset over both GSM and CDMA2000 1X networks so that GSM subscribers can access wireless data services based on CDMA2000 1X.

GSM 1X puts an interconnection node (also called a gateway) between the GSM and the CDMA network.

Subscribers will need a new dual-mode handset which can work with both GSM and CDMA2000 1X.
