SafetyNET

The Inmarsat C SafetyNET service is a satellite-based worldwide broadcast service of maritime safety information (MSI). This information includes high seas weather warnings, navigational warnings, radionavigation warnings, ice reports and warnings generated by the International Ice Patrol.

The SafetyNET can be received in the entire Inmarsat ocean regions including costal areas.

SafetyNET fulfils an integral role in the GMDSS as a requirement for ships to which the SOLAS Convention applies. The ability to receive SafetyNET service information will generally be necessary for all ships which sail beyond the coverage of NAVTEX.
