WiBro is short for wireless broadband, an South Korean technology that allows people on the road to hook up to the Internet at the speed of current fixed-line connections. The WiBro technology is fed into the development of IEEE 802.16e. WiBro works in another frequency band, the 2.3 - 2.4 GHz band, and is not fully comptible with IEEE 802.16.

The chracteristics of WiBro are:

  • Peak data rate per cel:
  • Cel seize: about 1 kilometer.
  • Data rate per user (DL/UL): 512/128 kbit/s up to 3/1 Mbit/s
  • Maximum velocity of the user: 60 km/u
  • Bandwidth: 9 MHz
  • Duplex: TDD
  • Multiple Access: OFDMA
